The Oyo State Chapter of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) has expressed its readiness to participate in the forthcoming Local Government Election scheduled to take place on the 4th of May, 2024, by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) under the Chairmanship of Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju SAN.

In a statement released today in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, the Chairman and Secretary of the Party, Oladunni Ariyo Olaitan and Pastor Raji Babatunde, respectively, informed the press of their intention to partake in the upcoming local government election.

The Hope Democratic Party (HDP) submitted a letter on the 5th of May, 2023, addressed to the Chairman of OYSIEC, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju SAN, expressing their interest in participating in the local government election slated for the 4th of May, 2024. The party's letter was acknowledged by a staff member of the Commission and was accompanied by an 18-page court ruling delivered by His Lordship, Hon. Justice D.U. Okorowo, on March 1st, 2023.

The court ruling mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to relist the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) as one of the registered political parties in the country and instructed INEC not to interfere with the party's activities pending the determination of the ongoing lawsuits. This ruling confirms that the HDP has fulfilled all the legal requirements for registration as a political party and should be accorded the same rights and privileges as other registered political parties in Oyo State.

The Hope Democratic Party (HDP) wishes to make it clear that it will vehemently resist any attempt by OYSIEC to deny its members their democratic rights to participate and contest in the forthcoming Council poll. The party firmly believes in the principles of democracy, inclusivity, and fair representation.

Furthermore, the HDP has requested that OYSIEC furnish the party with all the necessary details, electoral resources, and other valuable information required for its full participation in the slated council poll. The party aims to ensure transparency and equal opportunities for all political parties involved in the electoral process.

The Hope Democratic Party (HDP) remains committed to serving the people of Oyo State and advancing the interests of its members. The party believes that a vibrant democracy requires the active involvement of all stakeholders and the free expression of diverse political ideologies.

As the Local Government Election is approaching, the HDP is confident in its ability to present competent and qualified candidates who will diligently represent the interests of their respective local government areas. The party will engage in issue-based campaigns, focusing on grassroots development, good governance, and effective service delivery.

The Hope Democratic Party (HDP) extends its gratitude to its members and supporters for their unwavering commitment and trust in the party's ideology. The HDP assures them that their voices will be heard and their aspirations will be duly represented in the upcoming local government election.

The party also calls on Oyo State residents to actively participate in the electoral process, exercise their democratic rights, and vote for candidates who embody the values of integrity, accountability, and the pursuit of the common good.

Oyo Democratic Alliance (ODA) has warned the former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Alao Akala to concentrate on his 2023 Governorship ambition and leave Gov. Seyi Makinde to concentrate on ways of revitalizing and enhancing the economic growth of Oyo State. The group made the statement after an emergency meeting in Ibadan, the state capital of Oyo state on Thursday. According to the statement issued and signed by the Chairman of the group, Wole Adedoyin said, they were surprised at the sudden ways the former governor Alao Akala is destructively criticizing the government of Seyi Makinde for his selfish gains.   GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE YET TO FULFILL HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISE ON BOWERS TOWER   By: Wole Adedoyin Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Nigeria, is facing criticism for failing to fulfill a key campaign promise. During his run for office, Governor Makinde promised to refurbish and reopen the iconic Bowers Tower in Ibadan, the state capital. The tower, which was built in the 1960s, had fallen into disrepair and was in dire need of renovation. However, over three years into Governor Makinde's term, the tower remains untouched. The once proud landmark has become an eyesore, a symbol of broken promises and unfulfilled potential. Local residents and tourists alike are disappointed by the governor's lack of action, and many are starting to question whether he will ever follow through on his promises. Governor Makinde's failure to refurbish Bowers Tower is particularly galling given the importance of tourism to the state's economy. Oyo State is rich in history and cult...
